Facts About Laszlo J. Biro

1.       Laszlo Jozsef  Biro was born on 29 september, 1899.

2.       Biro was born to a Hungarian Jewish family in Budapes, Kingdom of Hungary, within the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

3.       His parents were Mozes Matyas Schweiger and Janka nee Ullmann.

4.       Laszlo Jozsef Biro was a Hungarian-Argentine inventor who patentend the first successful modern ballpoint pen.

5.       Laszlo Biro, After leaving school started to work as a Journalist.

6.       While working as a Journalist, Biro saw that the ink used in news paper printing dried quickly, leaving the dry and smudge free.

7.       He tried to use the same ink in fountain pen, but it wasn’t flowing to the tip. As it was too viscous.

 

8.       Biro with his brother Gyorgy a chemist did a presentation of a pen which he had developed at Paris in 1938.

9.       The pen which he was presenting was the first one of that kind in those days, it consisted of a ball that was free to rotate in a socket, and as it rotated it would pick up ink from a cartridge and then roll to deposit it on a paper.

10.    In 1943. during world war II, Biro and his brother left Hungarian to Argentine escaping the Nazis.

11.    On 17th June, 1943, a patent was granted to them and they developed a ballpoint pen manufacturing company and formed Biro pens of Argentina.




12.    In Argentina the ballpoint pen is as Birome.

13.    In 1945, Marcel Bich bought the permission from Biro to start manufacturing pens too, Which became the main product of BIC company.

14.    Bic has sold more than 100 billion ballpoint worldwide.



15.    Laszlo Biro died in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1985.

16.    Argentina’s Inventors’ Day is celebrated on Biro’s birthday on 29, Septmber.

17.    A ballpoint pen is widely referred to as a biro in many countries, including the UK, Ireland, Australia and Italy.

18.    On 29th September, 2016, the 117th anniversary of his birth, Google commemorated Biro with a Google Doodle for his relentless, Forward-thinking spirit.
